The wait is finally over! Tesla has officially stepped into the Indian automobile market, launching its very first electric car — the Model Y SUV — on 15th July 2025. With this bold move, Tesla is ready to reshape the future of electric mobility in India. The company has also opened its first official Tesla Experience Center at Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC), offering customers exclusive services like test drives, customization, and after-sales support.
Tesla Model Y in India: Showrooms and Charging Infrastructure
With its flagship Mumbai showroom up and running, Tesla plans to open more Experience Centers in major cities like Delhi, Bengaluru, Chennai, and Hyderabad. That’s not all — the company is working aggressively to establish its Supercharger network across the country. The goal is simple: to make long-distance electric driving in India hassle-free and convenient.
Tesla Model Y Available in Two Variants
Tesla Model Y is now available in India in two premium variants. The Standard Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) model is priced at ₹59.89 lakh (ex-showroom), while the Long Range RWD version is listed at ₹67.89 lakh (ex-showroom). Interested buyers can book their Model Y via Tesla’s official website with a booking amount of just ₹22,000. Deliveries are expected to begin in the last quarter of 2025.
Tesla Model Y Battery and Driving Range: Built for Indian Roads
One of the strongest highlights of the Tesla Model Y is its impressive battery setup and long-range capability. The Standard RWD version offers a range of approximately 500 km on a full charge (as per WLTP standards), while the Long Range RWD variant can stretch up to 622 km — a huge plus for Indian highway conditions.
Tesla Model Y Premium Features and Cutting-Edge Technology
The Model Y isn’t just another electric vehicle — it’s a tech marvel on wheels. It comes equipped with a massive 15.4-inch central touchscreen, which controls nearly all vehicle functions. Rear passengers also get an additional 8-inch display for added comfort and entertainment.
Inside the cabin, features like a panoramic glass roof, autopilot, and automated driving assistance offer a premium and futuristic driving experience. Over-the-air (OTA) updates make sure your Tesla keeps getting smarter with time, and the Tesla mobile app allows you to control the car remotely — from climate settings to location tracking.
Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS) features such as adaptive cruise control, lane assist, auto parking, and collision avoidance bring both peace of mind and state-of-the-art safety to the table.
Tesla Model Y Performance and Driving Experience
The Tesla Model Y is a mid-size SUV that delivers thrilling acceleration without compromising on comfort. The Standard version can go from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.9 seconds, while the Long Range variant does it even quicker — in 5.4 seconds. With smooth electric torque and a silent cabin, every drive feels luxurious and effortless.
Tesla Model Y Pricing and Market Challenges
The price of the Tesla Model Y in India is higher than its U.S. counterpart, largely due to import duties. Since the car is being shipped as a Completely Built Unit (CBU) from abroad, it attracts up to 70% import tax — pushing the cost well over ₹60 lakh.
In the Indian premium EV segment, Tesla will now face stiff competition from brands like Mercedes (EQB), BMW (iX1), and Volvo (XC40 Recharge) — all of which are already making waves in the same price range.
